Candles and Fire Safety Tips

Monday, March 15th, 2010

Decorative and fragranced candles may be an attractive addition to your décor, but they can be a serious fire hazard. According to the National Fire Protection Association Journal article, “Candle Fires on the Rise”, fires caused by candles have more than doubled over the past decade.

In addition to being a fire hazard, improperly used candles can generate a significant amount of soot. This soot can damage the walls, floors and ceilings of your office or home as well as your personal belongings like computer and printer equipment, keyboards, counters, phones, and television monitors. And beware: ordinary cleaners have a hard time removing this soot.

Not only that, but candles in glass jars can explode if the glass gets too hot — leaving hot wax and broken glass on your floor, counter, or worse.

TMN strongly encourages you to find an alternative way to scent your offices.

Happy Spring!

Critters and Pests

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

As your property manager, TMN works to live up to our responsibilities of responsiveness to tenant calls and superior maintenance of the buildings. We provide the best service we can utilizing both our staff and outside resources. In the case of repeated ant infestations, cooperative efforts with our tenants are sometimes necessary in keeping the problem at bay. We have a few tips about keeping pests, especially ants, OUT!

Ants typically come into a home or office seeking shelter, but more importantly, food and water. Scout ants will determine whether your suite or home is a good place for their colony to live depending on what you have to offer. The best way to deter ants is to seal all your food in plastic, clean up crumbs after preparing or eating food, keep a lid on trash, and bag the overflow. If you collect soft drink containers for deposit return, rinse the containers first, keep in a sealed location, or remove them quickly.

TMN has responded to recent infestations with cleanup, bug spray, ant traps and a professional exterminator. Inspections report overflowing trash, open food containers on the counter, pizza boxes on the floor, and a large container of sticky empty pop cans. In some offices… this is what is attracting those critters. If you eliminate the great food and drink for the pests, you will make your office an uninviting place to visit.

Unfortunately, when called to treat problems like this, we are required to charge for the service call. Please help us in helping you to keep your office environment free of unwanted pests.

A Simple Maintenance Tip

Once a month, we will be checking in with you at your office. If small maintenance things come up throughout the month please just keep a simple list of them. That way when we stop in you won’t have to try to remember something that happened two weeks ago.

Heating and Cooling Check Up

During the Fall we inspect your heating and cooling system and prepare everything for the winter season. Please let us know if you have heating and cooling issues in advance of that visit so that we can address them when we arrive. Thanks.

Have you ever had an outage that required you to go home for the day?

That is one the things this blog was set up to help with. We will use this forum as a place to notify you when your power or utilities are turned back on. That way you won’t have to call the office repeatedly to find out when the power is coming back on. We will post any news right here for your review.
